Unclaimed Bank Accounts

Unclaimed bank accounts are financial accounts, such as savings accounts, checking accounts, or certificates of deposit, that have been dormant or inactive for an extended period and have had no owner activity or contact. These accounts may have been forgotten, abandoned, or left unattended by the account holder due to various reasons, such as relocation, death, or simply oversight. Unclaimed bank accounts typically result from the failure of account holders to maintain regular transactions or communication with the bank. As a result, the funds held in these accounts remain unclaimed until the rightful owners or their heirs come forward to claim them. Banks are typically required to transfer unclaimed funds from dormant accounts to the OUF after a specified period of inactivity, where they are held until claimed by the rightful owners or their representatives.
